BACKGROUND: This case report presents the rare occurrence of hematochezia due to an internal iliac artery aneurysm leading to an arterioenteric fistula, expanding the differential diagnosis for gastrointestinal bleeding. It emphasizes the importance of considering vascular origins in cases of atypical hematochezia, particularly in the absence of common gastrointestinal causes, and highlights the role of imaging and multidisciplinary management in diagnosing and treating such unusual presentations. CASE SUMMARY: A 75-year-old man with a history of hypertension presented with 12 d of hematochezia, experiencing bloody stools 7-8 times per day. Initial computed tomography (CT) scans revealed an aneurysmal rupture near the right internal iliac artery with suspected hematoma development. Hemoglobin levels progressively decreased to 7 g/dL. Emergency arterial angiography and iliac artery-covered stent placement were performed, followed by balloon angioplasty. Despite initial stabilization, minor rectal bleeding and abdominal pain persisted, leading to further diagnostic colonoscopy. This identified a neoplasm and potential perforation at the proximal rectum. An exploratory laparotomy confirmed the presence of a hematoma and an aneurysm invading the rectal wall, necessitating partial rectal resection, intestinal anastomosis, and ileostomy. Postoperative recovery was successful, with no further bleeding incidents and normal follow-up CT and colonoscopy results after six months. CONCLUSION: In cases of unusual gastrointestinal bleeding, it is necessary to consider vascular causes for effective diagnosis and intervention.

Saline-alkali is an important abiotic stressor influencing tomato production. Exogenous methyl jasmonate (MeJA) is well known to increase tomato resistance to a variety of stresses, although its exact mechanism is yet unknown. In this study we confirmed that 22.5 µmol/l MeJA could significantly improve the saline-alkali stress resistance of tomato. Saline-alkali (300 mM) stress increased the endogenous MeJA and jasmonic acid (JA) contents of tomato by 18.8 and 13.4%, respectively. Exogenous application of 22.5 µmol/l MeJA increased the endogenous MeJA and JA contents in tomato by 15.2 and 15.9%, respectively. Furthermore, we found an important transcription factor, SlWRKY80, which responded to MeJA, and constructed its overexpressing and knockout lines through genetic transformation. It was found that SlWRKY80 actively regulated tomato resistance to saline-alkali stress, and the spraying of exogenous MeJA (22.5 µmol/l) reduced the sensitivity of SlWRKY80 knockout lines to saline-alkali stress. The SlWRKY80 protein directly combines with the promoter of SlSPDS2 and SlNHX4 to positively regulate the transcription of SlSPDS2 and SlNHX4, thereby promoting the synthesis of spermidine and Na+/K+ homeostasis, actively regulating saline-alkali stress. The augmentation of JA content led to a notable reduction of 70.6% in the expression of SlJAZ1, and the release of the SlWRKY80 protein interacting with SlJAZ1. In conclusion, we revealed the mechanism of exogenous MeJA in tomato stress resistance through multiple metabolic pathways, elucidated that exogenous MeJA further promotes spermidine synthesis and Na+/K+ homeostasis by activating the expression of SlWRKY80, which provides a new theoretical basis for the study of the JA stress resistance mechanism and the production of tomato.

Prostate cancer is a prevalent and debilitating disease that necessitates effective prevention and treatment strategies. Green tea, a well-known beverage derived from the Camellia sinensis plant, contains bioactive compounds with potential health benefits, including catechins and polyphenols. This comprehensive review aims to explore the potential benefits of green tea in prostate cancer prevention and treatment by examining existing literature. Green tea possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic properties attributed to its catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate. Epidemiological studies have reported an inverse association between green tea consumption and prostate cancer risk, with potential protection against aggressive forms of the disease. Laboratory studies demonstrate that green tea components inhibit tumor growth, induce apoptosis, and modulate signaling pathways critical to prostate cancer development and progression. Clinical trials and human studies further support the potential benefits of green tea. Green tea consumption has been found to be associated with a reduction in prostate-specific antigen levels, tumor markers, and played a potential role in slowing disease progression. However, challenges remain, including optimal dosage determination, formulation standardization, and conducting large-scale, long-term clinical trials. The review suggests future research should focus on combinatorial approaches with conventional therapies and personalized medicine strategies to identify patient subgroups most likely to benefit from green tea interventions.

Face Anti-Spoofing (FAS) seeks to protect face recognition systems from spoofing attacks, which is applied extensively in scenarios such as access control, electronic payment, and security surveillance systems. Face anti-spoofing requires the integration of local details and global semantic information. Existing CNN-based methods rely on small stride or image patch-based feature extraction structures, which struggle to capture spatial and cross-layer feature correlations effectively. Meanwhile, Transformer-based methods have limitations in extracting discriminative detailed features. To address the aforementioned issues, we introduce a multi-stage CNN-Transformer-based framework, which extracts local features through the convolutional layer and long-distance feature relationships via self-attention. Based on this, we proposed a cross-attention multi-stage feature fusion, employing semantically high-stage features to query task-relevant features in low-stage features for further cross-stage feature fusion. To enhance the discrimination of local features for subtle differences, we design pixel-wise material classification supervision and add a auxiliary branch in the intermediate layers of the model. Moreover, to address the limitations of a single acquisition environment and scarcity of acquisition devices in the existing Near-Infrared dataset, we create a large-scale Near-Infrared Face Anti-Spoofing dataset with 380k pictures of 1040 identities. The proposed method could achieve the state-of-the-art in OULU-NPU and our proposed Near-Infrared dataset at just 1.3GFlops and 3.2M parameter numbers, which demonstrate the effective of the proposed method.

Vascular endothelial cells (VECs) are key players in the formation of neovessels and tumor metastasis, the ultimate cause of the majority of cancer-related human death. However, the crosstalk between VECs and metastasis remain greatly elusive. Based on our finding that tumor-associated VECs present significant decrease of Nrdp1 protein which is closely correlated with higher metastatic probability, herein we show that the conditional medium from hypoxia-incubated cancer cells induces extensive Nrdp1 downregulation in human and mouse VECs by vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which activates CHIP, followed by Nrdp1 degradation in ubiquitin-proteasome-dependent way. More importantly, lung metastases of cancer cells significantly increase in conditional VECs Nrdp1 knockout mice. Mechanically, Nrdp1 promotes degradation of Fam20C, a secretory kinase involved in phosphorylating numerous secreted proteins. Reciprocally, deficiency of Nrdp1 in VECs (ecNrdp1) results in increased secretion of Fam20C, which induces degradation of extracellular matrix and disrupts integrity of vascular basement membrane, thus driving tumor metastatic dissemination. In addition, specific overexpression of ecNrdp1 by Nrdp1-carrying adeno-associated virus or chemical Nrdp1 activator ABPN efficiently mitigates tumor metastasis in mice. Collectively, we explore a new mechanism for VEGF to enhance metastasis and role of Nrdp1 in maintaining the integrity of vascular endothelium, suggesting that ecNrdp1-mediated signaling pathways might become potential target for anti-metastatic therapies.

Purpose: We prospectively evaluate the short-term clinical and radiographic outcomes of the only Chinese domestically produced trabecular titanium acetabular cup(3D ACT™ cup) in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA), aiming to provide evidence-based support for its clinical application. Methods: A total of 236 patients, who underwent primary THA using 3D ACT™ cup in the Department of Joint Surgery at our hospital between January 2017 and June 2019, were included in this study. General patient data, imaging information, functional scores, and complications were collected to evaluate the early clinical efficacy. Results: All patients were followed up for 33-52 months, with an average of (42.2 ± 9.2) months. At the last follow-up, the preoperative HHS score increased significantly from 43.7 ± 6.8 to 85.6 ± 9.3 points (P < 0.01). Similarly, the preoperative WOMAC scores showed significant improvement from 59.2 ± 5.8 to 13.1 ± 3.5 points (P < 0.01). 92.3% of the patients expressed satisfaction or high satisfaction with the clinical outcome. Furthermore, 87.7% of the acetabular cups were positioned within the Lewinnek safe zone, achieving successful reconstruction of the acetabular rotation center. The cup survival rate at the last follow-up was 100%. Conclusions: The utilization of the only Chinese domestically manufactured 3D printing trabecular titanium acetabular cup in primary THA demonstrated favorable short-term clinical and radiographic outcomes. The acetabular cup exhibits excellent initial stability, high survival rate, and favorable osseointegration, leading to a significant enhancement in pain relief and functional improvement. In the future, larger sample sizes and multicenter prospective randomized controlled trials will be required to validate the long-term safety and effectiveness of this 3D ACT™ cup.

Enfumafungin-type antibiotics, represented by enfumafungin and fuscoatroside, belong to a distinct group of triterpenoids derived from fungi. These compounds exhibit significant antifungal properties with ibrexafungerp, a semisynthetic derivative of enfumafungin, recently gaining FDA's approval as the first oral antifungal drug for treating invasive vulvar candidiasis. Enfumafungin-type antibiotics possess a cleaved E-ring with an oxidized carboxyl group and a reduced methyl group at the break site, suggesting unprecedented C-C bond cleavage chemistry involved in their biosynthesis. Here, we show that a 4-gene (fsoA, fsoD, fsoE, fsoF) biosynthetic gene cluster is sufficient to yield fuscoatroside by heterologous expression in Aspergillus oryzae. Notably, FsoA is an unheard-of terpene cyclase-glycosyltransferase fusion enzyme, affording a triterpene glycoside product that relies on enzymatic fusion. FsoE is a P450 enzyme that catalyzes successive oxidation reactions at C19 to facilitate a C-C bond cleavage, producing an oxidized carboxyl group and a reduced methyl group that have never been observed in known P450 enzymes. Our study thus sets the important foundation for the manufacture of enfumafungin-type antibiotics using biosynthetic approaches.

Aim: Abnormalities in sleep patterns are a common health problem for the older adults. The relationship between sarcopenia and sleep duration in older people is controversial. This research is to examine the association between sleep duration and sarcopenia. Methods: We drew 21,095 adults from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS). Not only we explore the relationship between sleep duration and sarcopenia, but also compare sleep duration to three sarcopenia subcomponents. Moreover, the sensitivity analysis was conducted by the gender and residence area to ascertain the discrepancy, separately. Finally, using restricted cubic spline to find the non-linear association between them. Results: Among 7,342 community older adults engaged by CHARLS in 2015, the incidence of possible sarcopenia and sarcopenia was 23.14 and 11.30%, separately. Sleep duration (≤6 h) [OR(95%CI) = 1.30(1.03-1.65), p < 0.05] and (≥8 h) [OR(95%CI) = 1.33(1.05-1.69), p < 0.05] were significantly linked with possible sarcopenia, while long sleep duration (≥8 h) [OR(95%CI) = 1.41(1.01-2.02), p < 0.05] was correlated strongly with sarcopenia. A non-linear relationship (U-shaped) between sarcopenia risk and sleep duration was found (p for non-linear = 0.009). Conclusions: Our findings highlight the importance of sleep duration in the onset of sarcopenia and might assist older persons to maintain good sleeping habits.

Prediabetes is a heterogenous metabolic state with various risk for development of type 2 diabetes (T2D). In this study, we used genetic data on 7,227 US Hispanic/Latinos without diabetes from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) and 400,149 non-Hispanic whites without diabetes from the UK Biobank (UKBB) to calculate five partitioned polygenetic risk scores (pPRSs) representing various pathways related to T2D. Consensus clustering was performed in participants with prediabetes in HCHS/SOL (n=3,677) and UKBB (n=16,284) separately, based on these pPRSs. Six clusters of individuals with prediabetes with distinctive patterns of pPRSs and corresponding metabolic traits were identified in the HCHS/SOL, five of which were confirmed in the UKBB. Although baseline glycemic traits were similar across clusters, individuals in Cluster 5 and Cluster 6 showed elevated risk of T2D during follow-up compared to Cluster 1 (RR=1.29 [95% CI 1.08-1.53] and1.34 [1.13-1.60], respectively). Inverse associations between a healthy lifestyle score and risk of T2D were observed across different clusters, with a suggestively stronger association observed in Cluster 5 compared to Cluster 1. Among individuals with healthy lifestyle, those in Cluster 5 had a similar risk of T2D compared to those in Cluster 1 (RR=1.03 [0.91-1.18]). This study identified genetic subtypes of prediabetes which differed in risk of progression to T2D and in benefits from healthy lifestyle.

BACKGROUND: Timely detection of modifiable risk factors for postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) could inform ventilation strategies that attenuate lung injury. We sought to develop, validate, and internally test machine learning models that use intraoperative respiratory features to predict PPCs. METHODS: We analysed perioperative data from a cohort comprising patients aged 65 yr and older at an academic medical centre from 2019 to 2023. Two linear and four nonlinear learning models were developed and compared with the current gold-standard risk assessment tool ARISCAT (Assess Respiratory Risk in Surgical Patients in Catalonia Tool). The Shapley additive explanation of artificial intelligence was utilised to interpret feature importance and interactions. RESULTS: Perioperative data were obtained from 10 284 patients who underwent 10 484 operations (mean age [range] 71 [65-98] yr; 42% female). An optimised XGBoost model that used preoperative variables and intraoperative respiratory variables had area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUROCs) of 0.878 (0.866-0.891) and 0.881 (0.879-0.883) in the validation and prospective cohorts, respectively. These models outperformed ARISCAT (AUROC: 0.496-0.533). The intraoperative dynamic features of respiratory dynamic system compliance, mechanical power, and driving pressure were identified as key modifiable contributors to PPCs. A simplified model based on XGBoost including 20 variables generated an AUROC of 0.864 (0.852-0.875) in an internal testing cohort. This has been developed into a web-based tool for further external validation (https://aorm.wchscu.cn/). CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that real-time identification of surgical patients' risk of postoperative pulmonary complications could help personalise intraoperative ventilatory strategies and reduce postoperative pulmonary complications.

OBJECTIVE: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second disease threatening men's health, and anti-androgen therapy (AAT) is a primary approach for treating this condition. Increasing evidence suggests that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play crucial roles in the development of PCa and the process of AAT resistance. The objective of this study is to utilize bioinformatics methods to excavate lncRNAs association with AAT resistance and investigate their biological functions. METHODS: AAT resistance-related risk score model (ARR-RSM) was established by multivariate Cox analysis. Paired clinical tissue samples of 36 PCa patients and 42 blood samples from patients with PSA over 4 ng/ml were collected to verify the ARR-RSM. In vitro, RT-qPCR, CCK-8 and clone formation assays were displayed to verify the expression and function of AL354989.1 and AC007405.2. RESULTS: Pearson correlation analysis identified 996 lncRNAs were associated with AAT resistance (ARR-LncRs). ARR-RSM was established using multivariate Cox regression analysis, and PCa patients were divided into high-risk and low-risk groups. High-risk patients showed increased expression of AL354989.1 and AC007405.2 had poorer prognoses. The high-risk score correlated with advanced T-stage and N-stage. The AUC of ARR-RSM outperformed tPSA in diagnosing PCa. Silencing of AC007405.2 and AL354989.1 inhibited PCa cells proliferation and AAT resistance. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we have discovered the clinical significance of AC007405.2 and AL354989.1 in predicting the prognosis and diagnosing PCa patients. Furthermore, we have confirmed their correlation with various clinical features. These findings provide potential targets for PCa treatment and a novel diagnostic and predictive indicator for precise PCa diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Mitochondrial Ts translation elongation factor (TSFM) is an enzyme that catalyzes exchange of guanine nucleotides. By forming a complex with mitochondrial Tu translation elongation factor (TUFM), TSFM participates in mitochondrial protein translation. We have previously reported that TUFM regulates translation of beta-site APP cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1) via ROS (reactive oxygen species)-dependent mechanism, suggesting a potential role in amyloid precursor protein (APP) processing associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD), which led to the speculation that TSFM may regulate APP processing in a similar way to TUFM. METHODS AND RESULTS: Here, we report that in cultured cells, knockdown or overexpression TSFM did not change protein levels in BACE1 and APP. Besides, the levels of cytoplasmic ROS and mitochondrial superoxide, in addition to ATP level, cell viability and mitochondrial membrane potential were not significantly altered by TSFM knockdown in the short term. Further transcriptome analysis revealed that expression of majority of mitochondrial genes were not remarkably changed by TSFM silencing. The possibility of TSFM involved in cardiomyopathy and cancer development was uncovered using bioinformatics analysis. CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, short-term regulation of TSFM level in cultured cells does not cause a significant change in proteins involved in APP processing, levels in ROS and ATP associated with mitochondrial function. Whereas our study could contribute to comprehend certain clinical features of TSFM mutations, the roles of TSFM in cardiomyopathy and cancer development might deserve further investigation.

Underwater image enhancement has become the requirement for more people to have a better visual experience or to extract information. However, underwater images often suffer from the mixture of color distortion and blurred quality degradation due to the external environment (light attenuation, background noise and the type of water). To solve the above problem, we design a Divide-and-Conquer network (DC-net) for enhancing underwater image, which mainly consists of a texture network, a color network and a refinement network. Specifically, the multi-axis attention block is presented in the texture network, which combine different region/channel features into a single stream structure. And the color network employs an adaptive 3D look-up table method to obtain the color enhanced results. Meanwhile, the refinement network is presented to focus on image features of ground truth. Compared to state-of-the-art (SOTA) underwater image enhance methods, our proposed method can obtain the better visual quality of underwater images and better qualitative and quantitative performance. Oxabornyl polyenes represent a unique group of polyketides characterized by a central polyene core flanked by a conserved oxabornyl moiety and a structurally diverse oxygen heterocyclic ring. They are widely distributed in fungi and possess a variety of biological activities. Due to the significant spatial separation between the two stereogenic ring systems, it is difficult to establish their overall relative configurations. Here, we isolated three oxabornyl polyenes, prugosenes A1-A3 (1-3), from Talaromyces sp. JNU18266-01. Although these compounds were first reported from Penicillium rugulosum, their overall relative and absolute configurations remained unassigned. By employing ozonolysis in combination with ECD calculations, we were able to establish their absolute configurations, and additionally obtained seven new chemical derivatives (4-10). Notably, through NMR data analysis and quantum chemical calculations, we achieved the structural revision of prugosene A2. Furthermore, prugosenes A1-A3 exhibited potent antiviral activity against the respiratory syncytial virus, with compound 1 displaying an IC50 value of 6.3 µM. Our study thus provides a valuable reference for absolute configuration assignment of oxabornyl polyene compounds.

Percutaneous or endoscopic drainage is the initial choice for the treatment of peripancreatic fluid collection in symptomatic patients. Endoscopic transgastric fenestration (ETGF) was first reported for the management of pancreatic pseudocysts of 20 patients in 2008. From a surgeon's viewpoint, ETGF is a similar procedure to cystogastrostomy in that they both produce a wide outlet orifice for the drainage of fluid and necrotic debris. ETGF can be performed at least 4 wk after the initial onset of acute pancreatitis and it has a high priority over the surgical approach. However, the surgical approach usually has a better success rate because surgical cystogastrostomy has a wider outlet (> 6 cm vs 2 cm) than ETGF. However, percutaneous or endoscopic drainage, ETGF, and surgical approach offer various treatment options for peripancreatic fluid collection patients based on their conditions.

Background: Studies have shown that sphingomyelin (SM) and its metabolites play signaling roles in the regulation of human health. Endogenous SM is involved in metabolic syndrome (MetS), while dietary SM supplementation may maintain lipid metabolism and prevent or alleviate MetS. Therefore, we hypothesized that dietary SM supplementation is beneficial for human health. Aims: In order to examine the impacts of dietary SM on metabolic indexes in adults without MetS, we performed a meta-analysis to test our hypothesis. Methods: A comprehensive search was performed to retrieve randomized controlled trials that were conducted between 2003 and 2023 to examine the effects of dietary SM supplementation on metabolic parameters in the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases. RevMan 5.4 and Stata 14.0 software were used for meta-analysis, a sensitivity analysis, the risk of bias, and the overall quality of the resulted evidence. Results: Eventually, 10 articles were included in this meta-analysis. Dietary SM supplementation did not affect the endline blood SM level. When compared to the control, SM supplementation reduced the blood total cholesterol level [MD: -12.97, 95% CI: (-14.57, -11.38), p < 0.00001], low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level [MD: -6.62, 95% CI: (-10.74, -2.49), p = 0.002], and diastolic blood pressure [MD: -3.31; 95% CI (-4.03, -2.58), p < 0.00001] in adults without MetS. The supplementation also increased high-density lipoprotein level [MD:1.41, 95% CI: (0.94, 1.88), p < 0.00001] and muscle fiber conduction velocity [MD: 95% 1.21 CI (0.53, 1.88), p = 0.0005]. The intake of SM had no effect on the blood phospholipids and lyso-phosphatidylcholine, but slightly decreased phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, and phosphatidylinositol concentrations. Dietary SM supplementation reduced insulin level [MD: -0.63; 95% CI (-0.96, -0.31), p = 0.0001] and HOMA-IR [MD: -0.23; 95% CI (-0.31, -0.16), p < 0.00001] without affecting blood levels of glucose and inflammatory cytokines. Conclusion: Overall, dietary SM supplementation had a protective effect on blood lipid profiles and insulin level, but had limited impacts on other metabolic parameters in adults without MetS. Neuromodulation is a powerful tool for fundamental studies in neuroscience and potential treatments of neurological disorders. Both photoacoustic (PA) and photothermal (PT) effects have been harnessed for non-genetic high-precision neural stimulation. Using a fiber-based device excitable by a nanosecond pulsed laser and a continuous wave laser for PA and PT stimulation, respectively, we systematically investigated PA and PT neuromodulation at the single neuron level. Our results show that to achieve the same level of cell activation recorded by Ca2+ imaging the laser energy needed for PA neurostimulation is 1/40 of that needed for PT stimulation. The threshold energy for PA stimulation is found to be further reduced in neurons overexpressing mechano-sensitive channels, indicating direct involvement of mechano-sensitive channels in PA stimulation. Electrophysiology study of single neurons upon PA and PT stimulation was performed by patch clamp recordings. Electrophysiological features stimulated by PA are distinct from those induced by PT, confirming that PA and PT stimulations operate through distinct mechanisms. These insights offer a foundation for rational design of more efficient and safer non-genetic neural modulation approaches.

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress can trigger various cell death mechanisms beyond apoptosis, providing promise in cancer treatment. Oncosis, characterized by cellular swelling and increased membrane permeability, represents a non-apoptotic form of cell death. In our study, we discovered that Arnicolide D (AD), a natural sesquiterpene lactone compound, induces ER stress-mediated oncosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, and this process is reactive oxygen species (ROS)-dependent. Furthermore, we identified the activation of the PERK-eIF2α-ATF4-CHOP pathway during ER stress as a pivotal factor in AD-induced oncosis. Notably, the protein synthesis inhibitor cycloheximide (CHX) was found to effectively reverse AD-induced oncosis, suggesting ATF4 and CHOP may hold crucial roles in the induction of oncosis by AD. These proteins play a vital part in promoting protein synthesis during ER stress, ultimately leading to cell death. Subsequent studies, in where we individually or simultaneously knocked down ATF4 and CHOP in HCC cells, provided further confirmation of their indispensable roles in AD-induced oncosis. Moreover, additional animal experiments not only substantiated AD's ability to inhibit HCC tumor growth but also solidified the essential role of ER stress-mediated and ROS-dependent oncosis in AD's therapeutic potential. In summary, our research findings strongly indicate that AD holds promise as a therapeutic agent for HCC by its ability to induce oncosis.

The high toxicity of arsenic (As) can cause irreversible harm to the environment and human health. In this study, the chlorin e6 (Ce6), which emits fluorescence in the infrared region, was introduced as the luminescence center, and the addition of copper ion (Cu2+) and As(V) provoked a regular change in fluorescence at 652 nm, whereas that of As(III) was 665 nm, which was used to optionally detect Cu2+, arsenic (As(III), and As(V)). The limit of detection (LOD) values were 0.212 µM, 0.089 ppm, and 1.375 ppb for Cu2+, As(III), and As(V), respectively. The developed method can be used to determine Cu2+ and arsenic in water and soil with good sensitivity and selectivity. The 1:1 stoichiometry of Ce6 with Cu2+ was obtained from the Job plot that was developed from UV-visible spectra. The binding constants for Cu2+ and As(V) were established to be 1.248 × 105 M-1 and 2.35 × 1012 M-2, respectively, using B-H (Benesi-Hildebrand) plots. Fluorescence lifetimes, B-H plots, FT-IR, and 1H-NMR were used to postulate the mechanism of Cu2+ fluorescence quenching and As(V) fluorescence restoration and the interactions of the two ions with the Ce6 molecule.
